POLICE have not found any clues linking missing London-based Irish teenager Nora Quoirin to abduction, Negeri Sembilan deputy police chief said today.
Speaking to The Malaysian Insight, Che Zakaria Othman refuted claims made by foreign press that police had confirmed they were treating Quoirin’s case as an abduction.
“There is no evidence at this stage that can link the case to an abduction. The reports made by foreign wires were not true.
“Police are still treating this case as a missing person,” the top cop said.
As of 6pm, Che Zakaria said there have been no fresh leads but police together with other agencies are out to locate the girl.
Earlier today, Che Zakaria said a platoon from the General Operations Force (GOF) will lead the search-and-rescue operation for 15-year-old Quoirin, who went missing from The Dusun resort on the outskirts of Jeram Toi rainforest, near Seremban on Sunday.
He added that 119 personnel from various agencies have been roped in to help with the mission.
“We are also deploying a GOF platoon from Semenyih to help us. They are the experts in jungle areas.”
Quoirin arrived in Malaysia with her family on Saturday for a two-week trip.
The family, comprising a couple and their three children, checked into the resort at 7am on Saturday. Police received a missing persons report at 11am the next day.
Che Zakaria said there are no CCTVs surrounding the resort, and coverage at the registration counter is limited.
The Lucie Blackman Trust, in support of the family, has provided a hotline and email address for those with information to call or write in: +44-8000-988-485 and [email protected].
Matthew Searle, chief executive of the overseas crisis support group, said:
“She has been missing for more than 24 hours now, and it is imperative that every resource available is deployed to search for her.
“It is possible that she was seen and taken by somebody, and is unable to communicate.
“We urge everyone to share our appeal poster and social media appeals,” he said in a statement. – August 5, 2019.
