A GENERAL Operations Force (GOF) platoon will lead the search-and-rescue operation for Irish teenager Nora Quoirin, who went missing in the jungles of Negri Sembilan on Sunday.

State deputy police chief Che Zakaria Othman told reporters today that 119 personnel from various agencies have been roped in to help with the mission.

“We are also deploying a GOF platoon from Semenyih to help us. They are the experts in jungle areas.”

Quoirin, 15, disappeared from The Dusun, a tropical rainforest resort in Seremban, 63km south of Kuala Lumpur. She arrived in Malaysia with her family on Saturday for a two-week trip.

The family, comprising a couple and their three children, checked into the resort at 7am on Saturday. Police received a missing persons report at 11am the next day.

Che Zakaria said there are no CCTVs surrounding the resort, and coverage at the registration counter is limited.

The Lucie Blackman Trust, in support of the family, has provided a hotline and email address for those with information to call or write in: +44-8000-988-485 and [email protected].

Matthew Searle, chief executive of the overseas crisis support group, said: “This is a very vulnerable young girl, missing in a remote location.

“She has been missing for more than 24 hours now, and it is imperative that every resource available is deployed to search for her. It is possible that she was seen and taken by somebody, and is unable to communicate.

“We urge everyone to share our appeal poster and social media appeals,” he said in a statement. – August 5, 2019.
