A POLICEMAN has been remanded for two days after he fired several shots into the air outside a nightclub in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
A police source told The Malaysian Insight that the 33-year-old corporal from the Sentul station was drunk in the early morning incident.
He was trying to break up a fight between his girlfriend and several people, said the source.
“About 6am on Sunday, police received a call from a security guard at the nightclub, informing them about the officer and his semi-automatic weapon.
“He was at the nightclub with a male friend and three women. He was trying to break up a fight between his girlfriend and other club-goers. He pulled out his gun and fired several shots into the air.
“The club-goers ran for cover after he fired the shots… The security guards at the nightclub calmed things down and took the weapon from the off-duty officer before calling the cops.”
No one was injured in the incident.
Police have seized the Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol used, and classified the case under Section 39(A) of the Firearms Act.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department head Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that the officer has been remanded for two days to facilitate investigations. – August 5, 2019.
