AN elderly couple caused a stir at the Bukit Kuda Health Clinic in Klang yesterday after they were stopped from allegedly spreading Christianity to Muslim patients.

The couple, in their 70s, was allegedly preaching their faith through a church bulletin, or weekly newsletter.

North Klang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nurul Huda Mohd Salleh said the couple were taken to the police station where they claimed ignorance to a law against spreading Christianity openly to Muslims.

“They were let off with a warning,” the police chief said.

The incident, which was also caught on video, first surfaced on social media. Pictures of the church bulletin and a video of hospital staff speaking to the woman had also gone viral.

The couple told police that they did not force the bulletin or other pamphlets they were carrying on the patients.

The woman told police that if a patient refused to take the bulletin, they would simply walk away, adding that she did it to thank God for curing her off her illness.

Nurul Huda added that the woman told police she acted on her own accord and was not backed by any individual or group.

The police chief said the couple gave their full cooperation when they had their statements recorded and were advised not to distribute religious pamphlets again.

“They were let go after having their statements recorded and they were advised not to do it again.”

She said the couple were not arrested, as had been widely reported in several WhatsApp groups. – July 30, 2019.

  • This is the best demonstration of a new level of understanding by our cops. Kudos! Arresting the old couple would have brought nothing but discord. Wonderfully handled.
