THERE will be fresh elections if Anwar Ibrahim doesn’t become prime minister by May 2020, said Mohamad Hasan.

The Umno deputy president said if Anwar does not make the country’s top job by then, the PKR president will take to the streets again to protest.

This, Mohamad said, will force Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to call for fresh polls.

“As it is, the Pakatan Harapan succession issue is not settled yet as he (Dr Mahathir) has a different story of when he will hand over each time he’s asked.

“He has said he only wants to hand over once he’s helped the economy recover, and another time he said he will go when the debts are settled. But when can the debts be settled?” said Mohamad as he officiated at the Beruas Umno division meeting today in Lumut.

Mohamad, or Tok Mat as he is popularly known within the party, then declared that this will pave the way for Umno and its new partner PAS to capture the federal government.

Umno and PAS will sign a charter on September 14 that will lead to the establishment of a new Malay-Muslim nationalist opposition pact ahead of the 15th general election, the two parties announced in a joint statement on Thursday.

The charter will be signed by the parties’ respective presidents – Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for Umno and Abdul Hadi Awang for PAS – at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur, where Umno holds its annual general assemblies.

Mohamad said the Pakatan Harapan pact is a fragile coalition of parties with very different ideologies.

“Bersatu’s sole purpose is to bring down Najib Razak and Umno, while PKR’s objective is to free their leader from prison.

“Now that PKR has achieved their first goal, they want him to be prime minister now.”

Mohamad also poked fun at Amanah, calling them misfits.

“Amanah’s ideology is to follow what DAP says, while DAP’s ideology is how to split the country and other parties as they cannot rule alone,” said Mohamad.

Also at the opening were Umno state liaison chief and former Perak menteri besar Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, and Beruas division chairman Azman Ahmad. – July 27, 2019.

  • This statement is just scaremongering based on no evidence at all. Shows how little UMNO is prepared to learn from their past mistakes.

  • If there is a snap election PH will lose with so many unhappy young 18 year old voting. PH is going to regret this silly move.

  • Whatever bad thing happened in the PH coalition is nothing compared to an UMNO led by corrupt leaders and liars that has frightened the people to death before GE14.
History has given everyone a good lesson and there shall not be anymore UMNO styled government again.
