Again Hadi says PAS will support Dr Mahathir as prime minister

PAS wants Dr Mahathir Mohamad to see out his term as prime minister, said party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

He said the dominance of non-Muslim leaders in the ruling coalition made it necessary for Dr Mahathir to continue as prime minister.

Hadi said though Dr Mahathir is a leader of a minority party, the Bersatu chairman had said many things to defend Islam.

He said Bersatu had only 11 seats though it ranks was boosted to 23 after Umno lawmakers crossed over to the Malay party.

“Its position in the government is not strong. We acknowledge the matter, but what is Dr Mahathir going to do? Surely he has his strengths.

“He defends many things, but the party seem to be isolated and that is why we have to take the same stance as Umno and defend Dr Mahathir as prime minister until his term ends,” he was quoted saying in the party’ organ Harakah Daily.

In February, Hadi said PAS will back Dr Mahathir as prime minister following talk there were efforts to remove the Langkawi MP through a motion of confidence in Parliament.

Hadi had said despite PAS being an opposition party, it supports Dr Mahathir to continue with Islamic leadership in the government. – July 27, 2019.
