PAS today vowed to keep its word on supporting Dr Mahathir Mohamad should there be a vote of no confidence called against the prime minister.
President Abdul Hadi Awang said despite PAS being an opposition party, it supports Dr Mahathir to continue with Islamic leadership in the government.
“We have information (on the speculated vote of no confidence)... and that’s why we are expressing our support. There’s no smoke without fire. We are providing support for the sake of Islamic leadership,” he told reporters at his home in Marang after delivering a morning lecture.
Hadi was asked to comment on Dr Mahathir’s statement yesterday, in which the prime minister said he wants to see whether the Islamist party will honour its pledge if there is an attempt to oust him from office.
Talk of a no-confidence vote emerged after PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said there is a plot in Pakatan Harapan to oust Dr Mahathir. – Bernama, February 22, 2019.
