PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s acceptance of police findings on sex video investigation has been noted, Mohamed Azmin Ali said today.

The party No. 2 said it was also noted that the party leadership would take stern action against members found to be involved in circulating the sex videos.

“After looking at Anwar’s full statement, I acknowledge his stand that he has accepted findings of the investigation announced by the IGP that cleared me of any involvement in the defamatory video,” Azmin said yesterday on Twitter.

“I have also taken note of the party’s decision to take stern action against leaders and members involved in distribution of the video. This is in line with my earlier statement that all forms of gutter politics must be rejected.”

Azmin was referring to Anwar’s statement yesterday welcoming police findings that his deputy was “not involved” in the sex videos.

“We are glad about the assertion that Azmin is not involved based on the facial recognition process, which has turned out to be negative as they could not establish the characters in the sex clips.

“On allegations that there are members and party leaders involved in the distribution of said video, PKR will not hesitate to take action according to the party constitution if any members are involved and convicted by law,” Anwar said at the PKR retreat in Port Dickson yesterday.

Anwar, who had earlier made conciliatory remarks about the investigation, had appeared disappointed in Azmin’s no-show yesterday, even though he said Azmin’d absence was expected.

Azmin did not mention the retreat in his tweets today.

Police have verified the authenticity of the sex videos but said that facial recognition tools had failed to establish to identities of the two men in the videos that emerged last month.

Former Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz has admitted to being one of the men in the videos, naming Azmin as the other. Haziq has since been sacked from the party.

Azmin has denied it is him in the clips and police have affirmed his innocence.

Police have made 11 arrests, including Anwar’s political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, in connection with the case. – July 20, 2019.
