PKR PRESIDENT Anwar Ibrahim said he was shocked to read about the arrest of his political aide in connection with police investigations on the sex video implicating Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“I am shocked as I am not sure why he was arrested. But police must have their own reasons to do so.

“The party has already sacked Haziq. Now the truth and justice will be revealed. Police are professional and we need to respect their investigations,” he told reporters in Parliament.

He was referring to the arrest of nine people in the past three days for the production and circulation of the sex video.

Among those arrested were Perak PKR leader Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, political secretary to Anwar, and former PKR political aide Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz.

Last month, a series of clips showing two men engaging in sexual acts were released on WhatsApp.

Haziq subsequently said he was one of the men in the videos, and that Azmin was the other.

Azmin had denied the claims, calling the affair a conspiracy to ruin his career. PKR has since sacked Haziq.

On Saturday, Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said police had identified the mastermind behind the production and circulation of the sex clips.

Hamid said it was possible that politicians and a pressure group were involved in the case.

“We have found evidence of a conspiracy and a plot by certain quarters in the production and circulation of the sex videos implicating a minister (aimed) to topple someone,” he had said.

Police sources told The Malaysian Insight that a senior PKR official was believed to be the mastermind behind the scandal, with the aim of bringing down Azmin. – July 17, 2019.
