NAJIB Razak should have his brain checked for claiming that Lim Kit Siang was behind the formation of Bersatu, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“Whoever said that should go to Tanjung Rambutan and have his brain scanned,” the Bersatu chairman said today after chairing the party’s supreme council meeting.
Although he did not name the Pekan MP specifically, it is likely Dr Mahathir was referring to the newly minted Barisan Nasional advisory board chairman.
He said Najib’s claim was outrageous and gave the impression the Malays could not think for themselves.
Najib had said the proposal to form Bersatu as a Malay-based party to rival Umno had come from DAP veteran Lim.
Najib said he was told this by an individual present at a meeting in which Lim proposed that Dr Mahathir create the party.
“Whose idea was it to form Bersatu? I have met this person who was at the very first meeting and today, he is with us.
“He said the idea had come from none other than Lim Kit Siang,” Najib had said on Friday at the opening of the Pendang Umno delegates’ meeting.
According to Najib, Lim made the suggestion to Dr Mahathir with the objective of pulling at least 10% of the Malay vote for Pakatan Harapan in the last general election.
“In Kit Siang’s head, he only wanted to break Umno and BN, and divide the Malays.
“I can assure you that this is not a made-up story. This happened and when we were down by 10% of the vote, it was enough for us to lose,” he had said.
Lim, who is Iskandar Puteri MP, responded by challenging Najib to name the person behind the accusation.
“He (Najib) is an unscrupulous, unprincipled Machiavellian and an incorrigible liar without any of the noble values that the great religions seek to instil in their followers.
“I shudder at the thought that our beloved nation had such a person as prime minister for nine years,” Lim said in a statement.
He questioned how it was possible for Dr Mahathir to become his stooge after the nonagenarian had twice jailed him under the now defunct Internal Security Act.
“Why should Dr Mahathir become my stooge, and how have I suddenly become so powerful as to become the ‘kingmaker’ in Malaysian politics, directing the actions and thoughts of Dr Mahathir, the eighth prime minister-to-be Anwar Ibrahim, and other political leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Amanah president and Defence Minister Mat Sabu?
“I have been twice detained under the Internal Security Act, hauled to court countless times on trumped-up charges, my son Lim Guan Eng has been detained under the Internal Security Act, and gone to jail and lost his position as MP to defend an underage Malay girl, and is now the finance minister after two terms as Penang chief minister.
“Why should I become a puppet of Dr Mahathir?” Lim shot back at Najib, who was recently named Barisan Nasional’s adviser. – July 15, 2019.

You quote someone when they say something. Not make it up as you go along. This amounts to false news! I think the writer and editor should have both their brains (if any), checked.
