ANWAR Ibrahim will meet the prime minister over independent preacher Wan Ji Wan Hussin’s enhanced sentence under the Sedition Act 1948.

The PKR president said he was shocked to learn about the additional three months’ jail imposed by the Shah Alam High Court yesterday, adding that it does not reflect the Pakatan Harapan government’s stand on the act.

“It does not reflect our sentiments at all. (The decision shows) that such outdated and obsolete thinking still exists in the administration.

“I will refer this matter to the prime minister,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

Wan Ji yesterday failed to appeal against his conviction and nine-month sentence handed down by the sessions court earlier.

The high court judge cited the Rukunegara when ruling that the preacher’s act was “extreme”, as it violated the principle of loyalty to king and country.

PH has received flak from civil society and its own parties’ Youth wings for failing to keep its election promise to abolish the Sedition Act.

  • In future, all judges must be properly vetted for suitability to ensure they don't possess any outdated and warped ideas.

  • This could be the end of PH Rule and the same ministers will turn opposition to the next new government and start barking like street dogs again. Which minister has come out to speak against this very biased judgement? Where is our new CJ? Can you teach your judges to know the law well ahead before sitting to decide a case? Mahathir is too busy to form UMNO2 so he has no time to pay attention to this Wan..

  • How long does the government need to review an Act it had committed to abolish in May 2018? Or does this unduly long decision making duration indicate Muhiyuddin and PH's reluctance and inability to abolish this draconian law? If so, just own up to it and stop misleading the voters who voted you in based on this soon to be broken election promise. We will then know how to vote in GE15.
