POLICE have arrested a Perak exco accused of raping his Indonesian maid, reports Malaysiakini.

Quoting state police chief Razarudin Husain, the portal said the exco, who is also a two-term assemblyman, was detained yesterday.

News of the alleged rape was first reported by Chinese-language media.

Bukit Aman sexual crimes principal assistant director Choo Lily confirmed that a report has been lodged.

The exco reportedly declared his innocence to the Sin Chew Daily newspaper.

It is believed that he is a DAP member, as the party’s Perak chairman, Nga Kor Ming, issued a statement yesterday, saying DAP views the allegation seriously and will leave it to police to investigate the matter.

The swearing-in ceremony for Perak excos, originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed indefinitely as a result of the police probe. – July 10, 2019.
