PAKATAN Harapan must lead by example as there are still 12 government lawmakers who have not declared their assets, said Hishammuddin Hussein.
“Twenty-two did not even declare their families’ assets and this includes a senator who is a deputy minister,” the Sembrong MP told reporters at Parliament lobby today.
“So, please ask the government to do something, as this is a fishing expedition to me,” said the former defence minister.
He said the PH government has to lead by example and prove that it is sincere and transparent about the assets of government MPs and ministers.
“Do they want to fish for our assets? Why?” said Hishammuddin
The Dewan Rakyat yesterday endorsed a motion making it compulsory for all MPs, their spouses and children below 21, and trustees to declare their assets to the speaker.
They have three months to do this.
According to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission website, 157 PH politicians have declared their assets to the anti-graft agency.
However, 12, or 8.6%, of the 139 MPs linked to the government have yet to declare their assets.
While 81 members of the administration have declared their assets, 4 have not.
Hishammuddin, who is being investigated by MACC for a series of land swap deals involving the Defence Minister, was also non-committal when asked if he would support the government’s proposal to extend the asset declaration exercise to all MPs.
“They have to talk to the opposition as we are not in government. They must explain the reason for it.
“We already declare to the Inland Revenue Board. So, what is the purpose of this. It doesn’t make sense to me,” said the former Umno vice president. – July 2, 2019.
