PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today defended the composition of the government-appointed task force on missing activists, saying that Putrajaya can’t satisfy everyone.

He said that the government had a duty to carry out its responsibilities even if it is unable to completely respect everyone’s wishes.

“We cannot satisfy everyone. Some will be happy, others may not. I cannot give my assurance that we can satisfy every involved party.

“We will see if there are any complaints (once the task force has started its work),” he told reporters after an event in Putrajaya today.

Yesterday, the government announced the setting up of the task force led by former high court judge Abdul Rahim Uda to look into the disappearance of pastor Raymond Koh and Perlis Hope founder Amri Che Mat.

Besides Rahim, the task force will comprise police legal affairs chief Mokhtar Mohd Noor police integrity unit director Zamri Yahya, Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission operations director Muhammad Bukhari Ab Hamid, Attorney-General’s Chambers officer Mohd Sophia Zakaria and Police Commission secretary Mohd Russaini Idrus.

The task force will first look into Amri’s case as there was still a case pending in the courts pertaining to Koh’s disappearance and any public discussion of the case will be sub judice.

However, wives of Koh and Amri had questioned the absence of women and non-Malays in the task force, saying that the lack of diverse representation in the panel runs counter to the spirit of muhibbah and does not reflect the multi-racial, multi-faith character of the country.

They also questioned Putrajaya’s failure to heed the suggestions of the two families of the missing men to include in the task force members of the Bar Council, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and a civil society group.

Koh’s wife Susanna Liew and Amri’s wife Norhayati Mohd Ariffin appeared particularly concerned over the inclusion of police legal affairs chief Mokhtar in the task force.

Mokhtar had represented the police in the public inquiry conducted by the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) into the disappearance of the two activists

Civil society group Citizens Against Enforced Disappearances (Caged) had also raised concerns over Mokhtar’s inclusion in the task force. – June 27, 2019.

  • The PM is giving very lame excuses for the selection . It is not pleasing anyone or the victims but fairness and justice . If tainted appointee is in the task force what does it tell you as a whole and what does it reflect the PM in his role. ??? Seems that nowadays the PM are least concern about the going on in the country but more in ensuring his party and cronies are in place to challenge any resistance from within PH. PPBM is a small mosquitoe party and playing too big for their shoes. They ought to know their place in the political landscape. Infact PPBM is secretely enlarging themseleves thru' devious recruitments of wash out politicians from the opposition . If the PM is intending to play subterfuge politics then high time that the other parties in PH start thinking of countering him and not to regret it later. Rakyat must have a feel and get use to see that PM needs to be changed if they are not living up to their promises.

  • Nobody would have complained if the composition of the panel was based on our Multiracial concept of Government. There are loopholes when you appoint such people to the panel because of their glaring vested interest. Police, Special branch office was responsible and you appointed culprits from the same Department. How would you expect the panels' findings could be fair? Why do they want to have separate the hearings of the task force when both the cases are similar and seem to have been carried out by the same culprits of Special branch? What subjudice this Melayu Home Minister is trying to convince people? Really so frustrating of this Melayu first and Malaysian second Muhiddin rascal. Does this HM mean there aren't any non-Malays and ladies to co-opt into this task force? We are really getting fed up with all these nonsense to the core. We helped to form this new government in the hope seeing some true happening and not like how PM and HM are taking us for a ride.

MALAYSIA was BUILD UP BY ALL RACES IN MSIA NOT THE Malays Alone.

  • Amanah has been trying hard to make the race and religion respected by all by upholding justice, integrity and fairness

What we are seeing there are still certain quarters who cannot get away from the past rhetoric. Unconsciously they are falling back to the old ways of governing the country, which brought disasters to the nation and his own people.
