UMNO will hold another massive rally with PAS soon, this time larger than the anti-ICERD rally held at Dataran Merdeka on December 8 last year, reports Utusan Online.
The country’s two Malay-based parties are also expected to launch the charter on the Umno-PAS cooperation at the rally.
Organising chairman, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, said the rally is just about Umno and PAS members coming together but also the resurgence of Muslim-Malays and Bumiputeras.
“This rally will be the largest event on the revival of Muslim-Malays and we also welcome the presence of non-Malays to the programme where we would also be launching the Umno-PAS cooperation pact.
“This is a positive development towards solidarity and unity of the people, especially the majority group in the country.
“Solidarity generated from this big racial group is important to achieve stability, peace and calm in Malaysia,” said the Pasir Salak MP.
A record of 300,000 people turned up at last year’s #DaulatHimpunan812 rally to reject Pakatan Harapan’s efforts to ratify the International Convention on the Eradication of Racial Discrimination (ICERD).
Umno has also forged a close working relationship with PAS with success seen in several recent by-elections. However, no formal pact has been signed by the two parties.
PAS, however, is treading cautiously towards the pact, with party president Abdul Hadi Awang noting during its recent muktamar that members from both parties are uneasy about the cooperation.
Hadi stressed that PAS will not spearhead the pact despite calls from many factions to take charge.
Kelantan PAS members still blame Umno for undermining and bringing down the PAS-ruled state government in 1977 despite the fact that PAS was part of Barisan Nasional then. – June 26, 2019.
