PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali does not have to go on leave as there is no proof of wrongdoing.

“If someone is being investigated for wrongdoing or crime, they can take leave. But this (sex scandal) is a political thing.

“In fact, it is intended to embarrass him and to ask him to take leave. I don’t like this political evidence,” he said at the Prime Minister Office’s Raya function in Putrajaya today.

Dr Mahathir said that police were still investigating the sex videos but had not updated him on the progress of their investigation.

He also refused to be drawn into the PKR infighting over the sex videos which had implicated Azmin.

“The police will make the decisions. I don’t make such decisions,” said the 93-year-old when asked if he would step in to calm the situation in PKR.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir also dismissed calls from a Bersatu leader to replace Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim.

“They can make suggestions but I don’t have to accept them,” he said.

Selangor Bersatu treasurer Mohd Shaik Rosli had suggested for Dr Wan Azizah to give up her seat to make way for Anwar.

Dr Wan Azizah had said that she would stick to the Pakatan Harapan agreement for Anwar to become prime minister after two years. – June 20, 2019.
