HAZIQ Abdullah Abdul Aziz, the man at the centre of a sex video scandal that has ensnared Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, was set to board a flight to Manila in the Philippines when he was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang yesterday.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Huzir Mohamed confirmed the arrest in a statement today.

“The suspect was at the international departure hall when he was arrested,” Huzir said.

Haziq, 27, had earlier this week claimed to be the man in the sex video widely shared on social media on Tuesday, allegedly showing himself with Azmin.

“Based on his flight ticket, the suspect was heading to Manila,” Huzir said.

Huzir said Haziq was being held over investigations under Section 292 of the Penal Code for sale or otherwise of obscene material, Section 504 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace and Section 377B for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

The arrest was made by Bukit Aman’s Criminal Special Task Force (USJT) about 6pm.

Yesterday, Haziq had lodged a police report defending himself against accusations that he had a political agenda behind his sex video confession and that he feared for his life.

The report lodged at the Kelana Jaya police station yesterday was confirmed by Selangor CID chief Fadzil Ahmat to The Malaysian Insight.

Haziq also posted a copy of the report to a Facebook page under his name, with the caption: “You can call me anything you want but I was never raised a liar.”

In the police report, he repeated statements he had made in an earlier post on the same Facebook page, calling Azmin a “sick man” for filming their sexual acts without his consent.

Haziq had claimed he had had mulitiple sexual encounters with Azmin over the past three years.

He had also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate Azmin, who he said was unfit to lead.

The PKR deputy president, when asked if he knew Haziq, had said he only knew the Sarawakian “from afar” and highlighted the latter’s past involvement with Barisan Nasional before joining PKR after Pakatan Harapan won the general election last year.

Azmin has since denied it is him in the video, calling its release a nefarious plot to destroy his political career. – June 15, 2019.
