KUCHING police have denied allegations by Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz’s father that they forced their way into his Petra Jaya home yesterday when conducting a house search.
“We followed the established standard operating procedure,” Kuching district police chief Awang Din Awang Gani said in a statement.
Abdul Aziz Ibrahim, 53, lodged a police report about 1am this morning claiming police had abused their power by forcing their way into his house.
Police had come in search of Haziq to record the Santubong PKR Youth chief’s statement in an investigation into a sex video implicating him and Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Abdul Aziz, his wife and daughter, who is in her 20s, were in the house when police arrived.
Awang Din said the police team that was sent to the house had called out from the gate asking to be let in.
“They believed there was someone in the house as a car was parked in the driveway.”
Awang Din said when their calls for the gate to be opened went unheeded after a few minutes, the team made the decision to enter.
“At the front door, the team again called out for the occupants to come out. It was then that Abdul Aziz opened the door.”
Awang Din said the officer in command introduced himself, showed his warrant card and stated the objective of the house search to Abdul Aziz.
“All the officers were then invited into the house by Abdul Aziz and (the family) gave their cooperation, including allowing the team to conduct a full search of the house,” he said.
The police raiding team were in plain clothes but arrived in a marked police car.
Abdul Aziz, in a claim made to The Sun Daily news portal, had said the policemen did not show any police identification. – June 14, 2019.
