4th man remanded over RM135 million military assets bribery case

A FOURTH person has been remanded in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) probe into an alleged RM135 million bribery case to secure a military procurement contract.

The suspect, who holds a “Datuk” title, was formerly a senior executive at the same company of another person remanded on Monday, an MACC source said.

The man, 56, was arrested after being questioned from 9am to 7pm yesterday. Anti-graft officials obtained a remand order for him from a magistrate in Putrajaya today.

The former executive is believed to have arranged the supply of assets in relation to the AV8 and AV4 armoured vehicles, a government contract worth more than RM7.5 billion.

“Investigations showed that the supply of the AV8 armoured vehicle was worth RM7.5 billion and the AV4 worth RM155 million.

“The amount in bribes is believed to have been misappropriated from the contracts that are worth more than RM7.5 billion,” the source said.

Defense Technology Sdn Bhd’s (Deftech) chief executive officer and chief financial officer had also been detained and questioned by the MACC.

The CEO was released on Monday on RM20,000 bail in one surety after being remanded since May 13.

The CFO was released from remand last Thursday on RM50,000 bail in one surety. – May 22, 2019.
