A MALAY-RIGHTS rally scheduled to take place tomorrow is an act of provocation but would be allowed to go on as long as organisers abide by the rules and do not fan religious or racial tensions, said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

There is no need for the protest to be held, as Malays and Muslims in the country are not under threat, as claimed by rally organisers, Gerakan Pembela Ummah (Ummah), he said today.

“Who here feels that Islam is under threat? I am a Muslim and I would not allow my religion to be insulted. Do you think that we in Pakatan Harapan would allow such thing to happen?” said the Pagoh MP.

“I am baffled by their claims and I feel this is an act of provocation. Our country is at peace and we as the government will always uphold the constitution, which safeguards Islam.”

He said there is “no proof that Islam is under threat” and that Putrajaya is, in fact, trying to save Islamic and Malay institutions such as pilgrims’ fund Tabung Haji and Felda.

The rally organisers have been given permission to conduct the protest but have been warned to follow all the rules as stipulated under the Peaceful Assembly Act, he said.

“Follow the law under the PAA. Do not try to incite religious hatred and the rally must be peaceful,” said Muhyiddin after the handing-over ceremony between retired inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun to his successor, Abdul Hamid Bador.

Ummah is a coalition of Muslim groups and was responsible for the massive street rally against the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) in December.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin said the government is aware that several parties are hoping to use tomorrow’s rally to provoke Muslims.

The rally’s stated objectives are to oppose so-called threats to the sovereignty of Islam and the Rome Statute, seek justice for dead fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, and protest against granting recognition to the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) issued by Chinese secondary schools and the teaching of Science and Mathematics in English.

Rally goes will also demand the sacking of Attorney-General Tommy Thomas, who is non-Muslim.

PAS has ordered its leaders and members to show up in force for the rally.

Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin recently alleged that Muslims are being bullied under the PH administration, which led to a spat with Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who accused the former of being “deaf” in the course of defending the government’s Islamic credentials. – May 3, 2019.

  • Muhyiddin ----- either you blind or being incapable. All these was festering since May last year onwards . You took up the responsibility and helm the Home Ministry but you did nothing in the guise of being political correct or as what others are seeing it as a softness for fellow Muslim. Now you wanna talk and act when too much leeway has been given to all these rabble rousers. It makes you look extremely stupid !!!!!. There is another four more years to next GE 15 but PH leaders especially the Malay Ministers are pandering to the Malay Agenda where it stiffle growth and inhibit others to voice out the disppointment and retards unity. What is there to have Malay Agenda or even talking about Islam when the economic woes will not bring in food to the dinner table and hopelessly trying to make ends meet. The quality of life are not from prayers or any agenda if there is no proper programn in palce to have concerted effort to drive the growth. The Malay race especially the Mufftis and the UmnoPAS trouble makers are taking advantage of PH being meek in confronting them. To reslove this unwarranted concerns is to initiate a counter offence with high handed methods within the rule of laws and place them in slammers till they understand that their idiotic actions are detrimental and non value added to the country. The sedition laws or what whatever that can be iused to hammer home the point is all the more imperatively to be applied. They are the sickos , misfit , ignorant religious clerics, free loaders, parasites, bigots and scumbags knows only what is pain when they faced it. They are making the rakayt especially the Malay race in being edgy and confused by this moronic activities. They have supported and knowingly aware that PH has done something and will see the improvement in their lives down the road. Let not this befuddled idiots hijack what the rakayt has fought so hard to place their beloved country back on track. Do not let the PM and the other hard working Minister busily working for nothing. Go and do your damn bloody job to keep the peace and ward away the undesirable elements. Be a tough Home Minister instead of being loud and blurred by the muddled head thinking process. Do your jonb or resign !!!!

  • How could our Law Enforcers allow such kind of protest to proceed? Knowing very well their agenda is to cause chaotic situation in our country? Who are the ones facing such threats in our country?

  • If bailing out Felda and Tabung Haji are threats to Malay, govt better retract the action. Name other threats govt has initiated, PH can always pull back all the helps to the Malays. All Sultans, PM, DPM, more than half the ministers, all MB/CM except Penang, Army force Chief, IGP, maybe 80% of govt servants are Malays. HOW the Malays can feel threatened? Those felt threatened must have imaginary phobia of the most extreme level. Najib said to have siphoned 30 billion RM through Jho Lo is NOT threatening the Malays? Jho Lo is Malay or Chinese?
