THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today detained a Sabah Barisan Nasional lawmaker and his actress wife for alleged corruption.
A source from the anti-graft body said the couple had been detained in Sabah but was later released after their statements were recorded.
“This investigation involves millions of ringgit. Both were nabbed to help facilitate investigation.
“Yes, the MP was a chairman of a government agency when BN was the federal government,” said the source when asked if the man was attached to a government agency.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki has confirmed the arrest but refused to provide details.
It is learnt that the two will be charged under the MACC Act 2009 at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court on Friday.
According to news portal Malaysiakini, the man is expected to face three charges and his wife faces charges for abetment. – May 1, 2019
