Syed Saddiq takes aim at TMJ in defence of Dr Mahathir

BERSATU Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman today fired a salvo at Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim in defence of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, comparing the Johor crown prince’s short tenure as Football Association of Malaysia president to the heavy responsibilities of the prime minister charged with putting the country back in order.

“If caring for FAM was so hard you had to resign in less than a year, imagine the responsibilities the prime minister has to shoulder restoring the nation,” the youth and sports minister said in an Instagram post tonight.

Syed Saddiq asked the Tengku Mahkota Johor, or TMJ, why he thought it necessary to change the prime minister now, when he did not call for Najib Razak’s ouster back when Malaysia was known worldwide as a kleptocracy.

“Even though TMJ called for Johor’s people to keep Najib during GE14, the rakyat remained with Dr Mahathir and rejected TMJ,” Syed Saqqid wrote.

This follows the crown prince’s retort that the prime minister should be changed rather than the Johor Darul Ta’zim coach, when he was urged by fans to have Benjamin Mora replaced.

“Instead of changing Mora, it’s better to change the prime minister,” Tunku Ismail said.

The crown prince and the prime minister have traded words for several months now, the most recent row being over the appointment of the new Johor menteri besar and state exco.

Syed Saddiq yesterday also denied talk of a rift between Bersatu chairman Dr Mahathir and the party wpresident Muhyiddin Yassin.

“To those trying to set Muhyiddin at odds with Dr Mahathir, enough. It is time for us to unite,” he said in an earlier Instagram post yesterday.

“Muhyiddin rejected attempts to have him named as the seventh prime minister because he wants the best for the rakyat. He was the one who nominated Dr Mahathir as prime minister.”

Muhyiddin on Friday said he had a good relationship with the party chairman, dismissing talk of a team Muhyiddin and a team Mahathir in the party.

Meanwhile, Tunku Ismail’s brother, Tunku Idris responded to Syed Saddiq’s remarks on Instagram with a post of a July 1, 2015 article where the crown prince had criticised Najib.

The younger prince pointed out that his brother had indeed taken the former prime minister to task in 2015, which was not so long ago that it should be forgotten by the people.

He also reminded those observing Ramadan to “reflect on ourselves, the royals, the government and the rakyat”.

“We all have our flaws. I’ll pray for nothing but peace in the months to come,” he said. – April 28, 2019.

  • Of course back in 2015 the palace find fault with Jibby cause he hijacked the Chinese team from you, dare to refute this in the open?? In short whoever cross path with the palace effecting their interest are in their wrath. Bak kata perpatah tua melayu pohon tak kan bergoyang jika tiada angin, get my que. Now you get smeone else to do the talking is it, finish what you started. It's not that I don't respect the royal institutions but if you can just open your mouth and speak freely while others can't comment that isn't fair and since you are using the social media so can we right?? If you want to be a politician than by all mens dive in but don't shoot out loud and hide behind the palace walls. I can't blame you for what you experience during those turbulence days of your late grandfather and honestly that is between him and you know who but if you insists of taking on, so be it with all your might as we stand firm behind the elected government.
