Only Malaysians can remove me as PM, Dr Mahathir tells Johor crown prince

ONLY the people, and not the Malay royals, have the power to change the prime minister through democratic means, said Dr Mahathir Mohamad today.

He said this in reference to Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s remarks on Wednesday that the prime minister should be replaced.

Dr Mahathir also reminded Tunku Ismail – better known as TMJ (Tengku Mahkota Johor) – that history has shown his own position as the crown prince can be changed.

“We still remember that previously we had crown princes replaced.

“So, even the crown prince can be replaced. As for the prime minister, only the people can change that.

“He thinks he is big but he is actually small. If he can vote, then topple me through the ballot box,” the prime minister said in his press conference in Beijing.

On Wednesday night, the crown prince was caught on video saying that the prime minister should be replaced when some Johor Darul Ta’zim football club supporters had urged Tunku Ismail to replace the team’s coach Benjamin Mora.

“Instead of changing Mora, it’s better to change the prime minister,” Tunku Ismail had said.

The crown prince and the prime minister had been involved in a war of words for several months now.

Most recently, the Johor palace and Dr Mahathir had exchanged words over the appointment of new Johor menteri besar and state exco. – April 28, 2019

  • Well said Tun. In 1981 Sultan Ismail suddenly changed the succession to enable Sultan Iskandar to ascend the throne despite his younger brother Tengku Abdul Rahman being the Tengku Mahkota for more than 20 years.

  • The Johnore Crown Prince has crossed the line. The audacity in him being rude and disrepectful not just to the PM but to an elderly statesman is a shame to the Malay culture and totally unwarranted demeanour from a royal family. He is basically asking the rakyat to dismantle the Royal Household. He thought that his family with their wealth Johore with its private army is very powerful but he forgot that it is only a fraction of the Malaysian population. Mahatir has to sort this obsteperous charcter and put him in place. he must know his place in society. The rakyat are never on his side except for Umno wayward supporters.

  • Now we should understand what the votes in our hands mean. What the people voted is truly "for the people". Thanks to our PM.

  • It clearly shows TMJ is so shallow as he can't even relate a proper answer to a question directed to him. LOL TDM must have really got on his nerves, well finish what you started TMJ.
