A PETITION for Najib Razak’s trial to be broadcast live has gained more than 61,000 signatures, and has the backing of the man himself, who insists he is not given fair shrift by “government-controlled media”.
The former prime minister, who has posted a link to the petition on his Facebook page, wants the state to livestream his ongoing corruption trial on social media platforms because he said the hearings are not being accurately reported.
“The people have a right to know the truth and to have transparency,” he said.
His former aide, Hizatul Isham Abdul Jalil , meanwhile, is under police investigation for posting a video clip of the trial after the court ordered that hearings are not to be recorded or broadcast “live” from the court.
“Police are already investigating the matter, but we advise the court to lodge a report,” city police chief Mazlan Lazim told The Malaysian Insight today.
He said he was informed that the court will conduct an internal investigation into the leaked video, which has gone viral.
Isham posted the video yesterday on Facebook. He did not say how he got acquired rhe video, but argued that Najib’s case was of public interest.
Najib is on trial for corruption and abuse of power involving RM42 million of SRC International’s funds.
De facto law minister Liew Vui Keong told The Star he understood that Najib’s counsel had obtained permission to get copies of the video recordings of the trial from the court.
“This should not be taken lightly, and the court should take action against those who upload such videos.” – April 20, 2019.

The media previously that was institutionalised and loyal to the BN machinery was NST, BH, Utusan...
During the previous administration there was a complete blackout of all opposition news! Pure bias reporting by the media, including the Star.
Today, the same media are given the freedom and independence to report on the ruling and opposition parties.. The press is free to report as they see fit and I believe it is unbiased reporting.. Yet the monkey feels otherwise.
