FIREFIGHTER Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim could have been semi-conscious after he was dragged out of an emergency vehicle and attacked during riots at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple last year, a forensics expert told the Coroner’s Court.

Prof Dr Shahrom Abd Wahid told the inquest this afternoon that Adib was in severe pain as he had  sustained several broken ribs.

“When the rioters slammed the door of the EMRS (Emergency Medical Retrieval Service) vehicle against Adib, he was probably already in a semi-conscious state,” Shahrom told the inquest.

“He was semi-conscious because of two reasons – he was in shock and because of the pain.”

Shahrom’s findings were based on his experiments and reconstruction of the event after he was asked by the coroner to look into the case.

Shahrom told conducting officer Hamdan Hamzah that during the attack, Adib was in a semi-conscious state.

“Adib realised that he was pulled out of the vehicle but he did not retaliate. In fact there was no reaction,” Shahrom said, in describing the likely scenario that night.

“We reconstructed the event. We placed a firefighter in Adib’s position and after the reconstruction, I inspected the fireman’s neck and found no sign of force.

“Therefore, Adib did not realise he was attacked and felt a sudden force as his collar was pulled.”

Last week, Shahrom said Adib sustained broken ribs after the attackers had slammed the door of the EMRS vehicle against his body with violent force.

His assessment differed from the those of Kuala Lumpur Hospital pathologists Dr Mohd Shah Mahmood and Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi, who agreed Adib’s injuries were inconsistent with someone who was attacked.

Adib was part of a response team from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department station on November 27 responding to a call that cars had been set on fire near the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Seafield, USJ.

He suffered injuries during the incident and died in the National Heart Institute on December 17. – April 16, 2019.

  • Half-cooked opinions and a lot of assumptions in the way this professor reconstruct the event - very untrustworthy, sad to say.

  • This professor is cooking up stories and have a different agenda in mind. He should be investigated on how he concocted up his findings. It beats all reasoning as one forensic expert analysis are 100% fool proof in being correct. He was not there to examine physical body there and then and all he has was datas from photo and heresay. He is hired by Bomba to protect their interest.

  • We reconstructed the event. We placed a firefighter in Adibs position and after the reconstruction, I inspected the firemans neck and found no sign of force". There is a gaping hole here. What evidence is there in the first place to show that Adib was in a certain position at a certain time? This is a supposition, a fiction of the imagination to create the rest of the story. Is there any photographic evidence showing Adib's position that was re-enacted? The van driver had testified he did not know how Adib had gone missing from the van. If Adib was assisting the driver by being a look-out while the driver reversed the van, the driver would have said so and would have seen (or sensed) Adib being pulled out. Did the van door have dent marks from the "strong" kicks? The re-construction was an imaginary exercise without any evidence of Adib's position (or whereabouts) just before he sustained the injuries.
