To end racial politics, Umno-PAS pact must be stopped, says Salahuddin

THE Umno-PAS cooperation only intensifies racial politics, said Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub.

He said he is perplexed as to why the Islamist party decided to team up with the Barisan Nasional lynchpin, which previously accused PAS of being racist.

“PAS and Umno are trying to generate strength supposedly in the name of community, but it must be remembered that they lost the last general election.

“PAS has made so many U-turns on their decisions. If we want to stop racial politics, the Umno-PAS cooperation must be stopped,’’ he said during a Rantau by-election campaign ceramah in Taman Bukit Tuanku, Seremban, last night.

Salahuddin said he quit PAS so as to serve all communities.

“We left PAS. Why? Because we wanted to practise Islam for all, justice for all. We cannot force others to become Muslims. Islam calls for compassion for all.”

Present were Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad and PKR vice-president Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

  • What is PH's plan to put into practice what is being said here? First send Zakir Naik out of this country. His mere presence here is inspiration to the racists. Why is the PH government so reluctant to send him away? That the government is seen to be friendly with and "appreciative" of Zakir Naik's preaching gives the racists much courage to practice racism.
