NEGRI Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun has decided to step down as the president of Seremban International Golf Club after members yesterday overturned an alcohol ban.

The ban was put in place by the management led by Aminuddin.

He said today that he will write to the management soonest on his resignation, reported The Star.

“I have decided to resign following the decision by the members.

“I will inform the management of this in writing,” he was quoted as saying.

Club members yesterday overturned the ban in an emergency general meeting which was attended by about 160 members. The ban was rejected because it was inconsistent with the club constitution.

They demanded for the EGM as they did not agree that alcohol should be prohibited at the club.

Aminuddin was absent from the meeting, which was chaired by deputy president Razali Ab Malik, who is the state secretary.

Aminuddin, who allegedly ordered the alcohol ban, said on Friday that the club committee had ordered the alcohol ban of their own volition.

The meteri besar was earlier reported to have threatened to resign as club president if SIGC did not stop serving alcohol on its premises, saying it conflicted with his duties as chairman of the State Islamic Ac.

He said he only accepted the post as the SIGC constitution clearly stipulated that the post of club president is automatically given to the menteri besar.

The post of deputy president is reserved for the state secretary.

The 18-hole course is owned by the state government, while the clubhouse and other facilities belong to the members.

The 67-year-old club has 1,100 members, less than half of whom are non-Muslims. The members are mainly civil servants and retirees. – March 25, 2019.

  • The next logical step for Aminuddin Harun, if he were a principled man, is to resign as Menteri Besar of Negri Sembilan unless alcoholic drinks are banned in the state. Many of us are still taken aback that he is not from PAS but from PKR. Surely, PKR is not so bereft of capable leaders who understand that Malaysia is a multi-racial country.
