THE law requires Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa to give the police due notice of his planned solidarity rally for the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said.

Citing the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, Muhyiddin said anyone who wishes to hold a rally needs to inform the police 10 days in advance of the event.

“No matter who wants to hold it (a rally), there are rules under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

“No party is an exception, they have to inform the police 10 days before the rally,” he told reporters after attending the ministry’s Excellent Service Awards (APC) ceremony in Putrajaya, today.

Muhyiddin was commenting on the  “Perhimpunan Solidariti Kedamaian (Peaceful Rally for Solidarity) scheduled on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur.

Mujahid, who is a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of religious affairs called for the rally following a shooting by a white extremist at two Christchurch mosques.

He said the gathering would show the world that Malaysia rejected the ideology of hatred and to stand in  solidarity with the victims of the attacks, which has killed at least 50 people who were Muslims from around the world performing tFriday prayers.

Mujahid said the decision for a rally was made at a special meeting of the various religious and ethnic communities in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the rally was not politically motivated and advised participants against wearing party logos but to don instead the symbol of a white dove with a hibiscus.

The rally is to start at 7am at the Sogo shopping complex and end at Dataran Merdeka.

Mujahid said Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, cabinet members and opposition leaders were invited to attend . – March 21, 2019.
