A COURT of Appeal hearing today on Najib Razak’s appeals relating to the SRC International case was postponed to Friday after his lead counsel, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, said he had fractured his left hand after interacting with his dog last night.
“I’ve never broken a bone in my life. My pet dog jumped on me,” Shafee told the panel of judges this morning before requesting a postponement.
The lawyer added that his injury required immediate medical attention through X-ray scans.
Shafee, however, had appeared at the Shah Alam High Court earlier to represent Samirah Muzaffar, who claimed trial to murdering her husband Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan.
He turned up at the Court of Appeals late for Najib’s hearing. The proceedings commenced without Shafee, who later made his request for a postponement when he arrived.
Today’s hearing was to hear four of Najib’s appeals on the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s ruling over interlocutory applications in his seven criminal charges relating to SRC International Sdn Bhd funds, totalling RM42 million.
SRC International is a former unit of 1MDB.
Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof led a three-man panel that included Rhodzariah Bujang and Lau Bee Lan.
Attorney-General Tommy Thomas objected to Shafee’s claims, saying: “Everyone wants the trial to start as early as tomorrow.
“There is enormous pressure on the prosecution team. In fact, global pressure is on us for the trial to start,” he told the bench.
“I understand the counsel has a problem. But on the other hand we are under scrutiny (as to why) the trial hasn’t started.”
Zabariah adjourned the hearing to Friday morning and told lawyers that their submissions for the fourth appeal, relating to the withdrawal of certificate, must be concluded by then.
Najib’s four appeals were initially slated to be decided by today.
Zabariah fixed Friday for the hearing to continue after Thomas said he is required to attend a Pardons Board meeting in Johor Baru on Thursday.
She agreed to a request by Najib’s lawyer, Harvinderjit Singh, for Friday’s hearing to begin at 8.30am.
“We have no issue (with that). We can even start at 6am,” said Thomas. – March 12, 2019.

Just to avoid all doubt, it's not about bestiality.
