THE government has formed a special unit to monitor all platforms, including social media, for acts of insulting and mocking Prophet Muhammad and Islam, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mujahid Yusof Rawa.

The team will be supervised by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), the minister in charge of Islamic affairs said in a statement.

The unit was set up following recent cases of social media postings which allegedly insulted Islam and the prophet.

“I have asked this unit to receive complaints and then to lodge reports immediately to the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

“I hope everyone can work together to safeguard our nation’s harmony.

“I also believe the authorities have taken all necessary actions over this issue.

“As a minister in charge of Islam, I will not compromise with any act of insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad.”

The unit can be contacted via [email protected], or by sending a WhatsApp message to 010-300 52 60.

Mujahid has come under fire in recent weeks for allegedly not doing enough to defend Islam in the face of recent insults.

Yesterday, the police arrested a 43-year-old man for insulting Islam and the prophet on Twitter.

Last week, a 29-year-old suspect was detained in Labuan and slapped with a four-day remand which ends today.

Another 22-year-old suspect was detained in Bau, Sarawak on Tuesday and being remanded until today.

On February 27, a 68-year-old man claimed trial at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to two counts of insulting Prophet Muhammad and his wife on his Facebook page.

The 68-year-old, who is jobless, was sent to Sg Buloh jail as he could not post his RM20,000 bail. – March 7, 2019.

  • Its good to know that non Muslim have taken an interest in Islam but why made a direct statement of the prophet a subject matter which is most valued in Islam, isnt that an act of provocation on Islam. The events are not isolated and its becoming a trend of sequence and if left unchecked can really invite an unpleasant situation. Think again if this is what made available under the new found Malaysia, I think you are dead wrong. If you continue to prolong testing the water than I guess we all will lost it eventually. Given the scenario if the Chinese gods and goddesses are being made fun of, would that be acceptable??

    • Chinese believe their Gods are all powerful, whereas some Muslims in this country believe that others are able to destroy their faith and their God's religion.
