MUSLIMS are not afraid to die in the name of Prophet Muhammad, said right-wing Malay Muslim groups including Umno and PAS, who staged a rally today to defend their race and religion.

In the rally after Friday prayers this afternoon, one of the speakers, Mohd Zabin Mustafa from the Majlis Pembangunan Pendidikan Islam Malaysia, said that Muslims are not afraid to die in the name of the prophet.

“We are prepared to die, we are ready to die for our Prophet Muhammad and we are ready to die for our religion,” he said at the rally that was organised by Gerakan Pembela Ummah (Ummah).

Another speaker, Idris Ahmad, who is PAS vice-president, told the crowd that defending Prophet Muhammad’s name and dignity was part of Jihad.

“You can insult our parents, our family, you can steal our land and you can take away our rights, but you can never insult our religion and prophet.

“We must stand up and rise up to defend our beloved Prophet Muhammad. This is our Jihad,” Idris said.

Idris’ sentiment was supported by Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dasuki, who proposed a mega rally if no action is taken against individuals who insult Islam.

Asyraf also took a swipe at Minister in charge of Islamic Affairs Mujahid Yusof Rawa, saying that the minister was too lenient in defending Islam.

“The minister accused Umno and PAS of using Islam for political gains but today it showed that the minister who is the one who uses Islam as political tool.

“He kept quiet about this issue, he did not come up to defend Islam as a minister, what he cares is only those in power.

“We will rally with a bigger number than our last ICERD rally if there is no action taken. This is our promise,” Asyraf said.

“Do not play with fire, do not insult Islam and do not try to insult our religion,” he added.

The rally today took place at the National Mosque right after Friday prayers.

Some 300 members from the group attended the rally that ended at 3.30pm.

Two days ago, a senior citizen pleaded not guilty in the sessions court to two counts of uploading a caricature and transmitting offensive communications that allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad and his wife, Aisyah, on Facebook.

Wai Foo Sing, 68, was charged with uploading the posting on his Facebook account, with the profile name “Foo Sing Wai” where the action could cause disharmony, disunity or feelings of enmity, hatred and ill-will on grounds of religion among the people of different religions in the country.

The offence was allegedly committed at 5pm last February 17, and was read at noon on February 18, at the Cyber Crime and Multimedia Investigation Division, Commercial Crime Investigation Department, Bukit Aman police headquarters, 27th floor, Menara KPJ, Wangsa Maju.

He was charged under Section 298A(1)(a) of the Penal Code and faces imprisonment for up to five years if found guilty.

  • These zealots belong in the same cell as Foo Sing Wai. The way forward is to break up these little fiefdoms - integrate vernacular, Tahfiz schools into the mainstream, insist upon Bahasa fluency, be consistent in clamping down on prejudicial speech. When we bring to the light that which lurks in the shadows There will be no room nor fodder for hatred. Any threat to our way of life to promote bigotry and zealotry should be met with swift action.

  • Who is fighting you? Nobody. Who says lying is permissible in Islam - not non Muslims. If all Muslims were to die for their religion, it would no longer exist. Not very sustainable for a world religion.

  • "insult Islam". How is INSULTING ISLAM defined? If the PH Government appointed a few non-Muslims to top posts in the government, how is that INSULTING ISLAM? So do these noisy people want the PDRM's newly set up task force on insulting religions to take action to remove those non-Muslims and replace them with Muslims even if the latter are the likes of Hadi?

  • No need to die for Islam if you stop telling lies. It reflects badly on your community.

  • Politicians, especially those facing extinction and/or jail time, and if stupid and/or klepto, corrupt, thuggish to boot, will say and do stupid things. Important for citizens not to fall for such rantings. Confounding that there is a vocal minority that has.
