Leaders like Nazri Aziz the reason BN lost GE14, says MCA leader

NAZRI Aziz is not fit to be Barisan Nasional secretary-general because he is racist, and should be sacked, said MCA leader Chew Mei Fun.

Chew, who is the ethnic Chinese BN party’s secretary-general, said Nazri’s “profanities” in a recent Semenyih by-election campaign speech “cannot be tolerated, but must be reprimanded and severed by his party Umno”.

“Nazri is unsuitable and does not qualify to wield the post of BN secretary-general.

“BN is not solely owned by Umno alone, nor is Nazri the sole absolute owner of BN. BN, on the other hand, is collectively owned by all of us who have mutual respect and love for one another in the name of the BN spirit,” Chew said in a statement today.

Nazri, in a speech on Sunday, had criticised the Pakatan Harapan government over the appointments of non-Malays as attorney-general, chief justice and finance minister.

He had also said non-Malays should not question Malay privileges, since non-Malays also had privileges, such as vernacular schools.

Nazri has been questioned by police, and Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun today confirmed that the Padang Rengas MP was being investigated under the Sedition Act.

Chew today said Nazri’s remarks would be raised at the BN Supreme Council level.

She said Nazri’s remarks were “rude, ego-filled and immature”, and were an example of some of the reasons why voters rejected BN in the 14th general election.

“Nazri is among the names of BN leaders who are listed in this group of proud and arrogant leaders.

“Nazri has no place in a moderate Malaysia as he does not embody the BN spirit.

“Nazri epitomises the saying ‘one rotten apple spoils the whole barrel’. Due to Nazri’s statement that reeks of racism, provocation and is irresponsible, it is us in BN who are hit.

“It is pointless to ask why the majority of Malaysian citizens no longer support BN, or why BN must be overhauled, reformed or even dissolved when the good name of BN has been contaminated by leaders who are racist, extremist and egoistical, like Nazri,” Chew said.

Following backlash over his speech, Nazri called for a press conference yesterday to strong deny that he had urged for vernacular schools to be shut down.

He had said he was only speaking about topics the Malay grassroots were discussing among themselves. – February 26, 2019.
