FORMER kindergarten teacher M. Indira Gandhi has lodged a report with the anti-graft authorities alleging abuse of power by former home minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and agencies under the ministry in issuing a new MyKid identity card to Prasana Diksa, her missing daughter who was kidnapped by her ex-husband and converted to Islam without her consent.

Although Indira has won her 10-year legal battle to gain custody of her three children and to have the religious conversions to Islam nullified last year, Prasana, the youngest child who is 11-years-old now, has been missing since 2009.

Indira lodged the report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday with the help of the Indira Gandhi Action Team (Ingat), a new action group formed by Malaysian Hindu Sangam and other Hindu organisations to locate her ex-husband and child.

Ingat chairman Arun Dorasamy said the MACC report named Zahid as the former home minister, the Home Ministry, and the National Registration Department.

“We suspect a deliberate move to change her MyKid number,” Arun said at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.

“We suspect they have issued a new identity card, which is illegal, with the help of the Home Ministry, National Registration Department, and Zahid.”

Indira, who was at the press conference, held up Prasana’s original MyKid which she had kept.

“If Riduan (Abdullah) had registered Prasana in any school,he would have had to get a new MyKid from JPN. But that never happened,” Arun said.

He added that Prasana’s original MyKid number had not been found in any passport and they were not sure if the child was still in the country.

Arun said these findings as well as a search into Riduan’s whereabouts had been conducted by a volunteer investigation task force set up eight months ago.

In her report to MACC, Indira alleged that the ministry had colluded to illegally change Prasana’s MyKid number to avoid detection by the police or herself.

Indira told reporters her worries and fears were “growing day to day” as Prasana approached puberty.

“We have received all these rumours that she is being abused. She is not schooling. I don’t even know if my child is alive,” she said.

Indira also plans to file a contempt of court order against the inspector-general of police to compel him to abide by a mandamus order to arrest Riduan and return Prasana.

Arun said the Ingat legal team would help Indira file next week a “repeat of the same exercise in 2014” after Riduan missed the Ipoh High Court’s deadline to return the child.

The court then had also ordered police to find Prasana.

Later the same year, the high court issued a mandamus order compelling the inspector-general of police to arrest Riduan.

It was challenged by the government but then restored by the Federal Court in 2016.

Indira’s custody battle for her three children has been fought in both the shariah and civil courts. The two older children have been with her all the while and only Prasana was taken by Riduan.

In January last year, the civil Federal Court in a landmark decision nullified the conversion of Indira’s children to Islam by her ex-husband, and also declared unilateral conversions of children by one parent to be unlawful. – February 23, 2019.
