THE government will not “wash its hands” of its commitment to abolishing tolls as promised in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

He said that the problem lay with the government’s current capabilities as it was burdened with unreasonable costs.

“This is our commitment to continue, but according to the government’s capability, because of the problem of high and unreasonable costs.

“We will continue to work to fulfill our promises,” Lim told reporters in Menara UOA in Bangsar today.

Lim kept mum on the announcement itself and refused to elaborate further when quizzed on the details of the upcoming announcement on tolls promised by Muhyiddin Yassin.

“Why are we talking about this? We are saying we are working progressively but it will take time. Let’s wait for the announcement. I also have to check with Muhyiddin.

“I am sure there will be clarity when the announcement is made. Until then, please don’t speculate,” he said.

Bersatu chairman Muhyiddin said earlier today that an important announcement on toll collections will be made soon, in relation to PH’s manifesto promise to reduce highway toll rates and abolish tolls.

“We just discussed this in the cabinet. A statement on tolls will be announced by the minister concerned, maybe in a day or two,” said Muhyiddin. – February 22, 2019.
