BARISAN Nasional’s victory in the Cameron Highlands by-election was the result of increasing support from youth, said Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.

BN lost many youth votes in the 14th general election because they were lured by the “sweet promises” offered by Pakatan Harapan, he said.

Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Farid Mohd Nor told him that youth support for BN in Cameron Highlands increased compared with GE14, Khairy told a crowd of about 100 at a ceramah in Sg Lalang, Semenyih, last night.

“Votes from the channel for youth at polling centres were surprisingly leaning towards the BN candidate.

“We can see the rise of youth support for BN.”

BN’s Ramli Mohd Nor won the Cameron Highlands by-election by 12,038 votes, defeating the Pakatan Harapan candidate M. Manogaran (8,800) and two independents Sallehudin Ab Talib (314) and Wong Seng Yee (276).

Voter turnout for the by-election was 68.8% or 21,428 voters.

In Semenyih, Khairy said the people’s unhappiness towards the government should translate into more votes.

“There are a lot of unfulfilled promises. It is good if the rejection momentum (towards PH) continues.

“I think the people will benefit when PH realises that its support has declined.” – February 22, 2019.
