THE cooperation between Barisan Nasional and PAS in the Semenyih by-election is a continuation of the relationship after the Cameron Highlands by-election, said Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.

Both parties’ machineries are working up to BN expectations, said the former Umno Youth leader.

“From what I can see, the machinery and works on the ground are running as what we hoped for, which is for the cooperation from Cameron Highlands to continue,” he told reporters after a ceramah in Sg Lalang, Semenyih, last night.

Present were deputy Umno Youth chief Shahril Hamdan, Lipis MP Abdul Rahman Mohamad and Sg Panjang assemblyman Mohd Imran Tamrin.

About 100 people attended the ceramah held near the main road in the village. Several cars and lorries passing by shouted “Hidup Umno” when Khairy was speaking.

The two parties are also planning a mega-ceramah, he said.

“The cooperation is ongoing and I was made to understand that we are planning a ceramah perdana which involves the top leaders from both parties. So, we just wait and see,” he added.

Last week, Dr Mahathir said PAS agreed not to back BN in the Semenyih by-election following a meeting between the Islamist party’s president, Abdul Hadi Awang, and the prime minister in Putrajaya.

However, after a meeting with Umno at the Barisan Nasional operation room in Semenyih on the same day, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said it only promised support for Dr Mahathir in the event of a no-confidence vote against the prime minister but won’t back Pakatan Harapan in the Semenyih by-election. – February 22, 2019.

  • KJ, do not just tell us your observation. State your stand about this PAS-BN cooperation. Being a prominent leader, it is bad for you and others to be a fence sitter.
