A 26-YEAR-OLD man has been detained in connection with the brutal robbery of a woman in a lift at the Taman Mutiara Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station last Thursday.
The suspect was detained by the Cheras Serious Crime unit (D9) about 8.20pm today.
“We detained a 26-year-old man in Taman Cheras, Cheras, about 8.20pm,” KL police chief Mazlan Lazim said.
“We believe this man is the prime suspect in the recent robbery at the MRT station.
“A Cheras D9 police unit apprehended the man and the case is being probed under Section 394 of the Penal Code for robbery.”
It is learnt the suspect will be remanded tomorrow morning.
In the 6.45am incident on Thursday, a 48-year-old woman was punched and kicked several times by a man in the lift.
The man had followed the victim into the lift before assaulting her and running away with her belongings.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa had said the victim suffered injuries to several parts of the body and swelling on the forehead.
A 57-second closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera recording, which showed the suspect brutally attacking the woman, has since gone viral on social media. β February 18, 2019.
