Marzuki was appointed for his credibility, says Waytha

MINISTER in the Prime Minister’s Department P. Waytha Moorthy said Marzuki Yahya was appointed deputy foreign minister by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad based on his credibility, political strength with the grassroots, and contribution to Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the May 2018 general election.

In a statement today, Waytha said: “Marzuki has explained why he obtained the degree, which was some 17 years ago, and this should be sufficient.”

Waytha said PH leaders are credible, regardless of their academic credentials, and capable of reforming Malaysia.

He said Marzuki has performed well as a government servant and is well-received by the public and foreign emissaries.

“I hope Malaysians who voted for the new government will realise harping on a non-issue is an attempt to dent the rakyat’s confidence in the PH government,” he said.

On Friday, Marzuki produced a copy of his academic transcript and Bachelor of Business Administration (Logistics Management) degree from Cambridge International University in the United States after a police report was made against him by political activist Muhsin Abdul Latheef.

A Facebook user had on February 3 cast doubt on his degree, saying the long-distance programme is not provided by the UK’s University of Cambridge. – Bernama, February 10, 2019.

  • Waytha... there is no harm in trying to reaffirm his credentials. We need people who are sincere and credible in the PH administration.

  • What's wrong to act with honesty? Just confirm his credential, yes or no. We don't want our elected reps to cheat. If an elected rep dare to cheat the first time, it will be endless. He has to cheat all the way to cover up his first cheat. Stop him is to correct him, admit the mistake if there is. Only than he can start things right again.
