THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has begun investigating a claim that Umno paid PAS leaders RM90 million to secure their support, said a source.
The source said MACC launched the probe after receiving a report on the matter from police yesterday.
The anti-graft agency will call up several individuals for questioning, said the source.
“We request all quarters to exercise patience and not speculate with regard to the investigation,” the source told Bernama today.
The source said the probe is being conducted under the MACC Act 2009 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
Whistle-blower site Sarawak Report, in a 2016 article, claimed that Umno paid RM90 million to PAS leaders to secure their support for the then ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, and that the money was from 1Malaysia Development Bhd. – Bernama, February 6, 2019.
