FORMER prime minister Najib Razak denied he or Umno paid RM90 million to PAS or its president Abdul Hadi Awang to buy support, saying it is unfair for the Islamist party to be slandered thus.
Najib, whose party Umno has an understanding with PAS to support each other in elections, said there was no proof that money changed hands.
“Keep in mind that the PH (Pakatan Harapan) government has made very thorough investigations into my accounts and Umno’s in the nine months since GE14,” he wrote on Facebook today.
“If it is true that there had been any payment from me or from Umno, the PH government would have taken the opportunity to freeze the bank account of the PAS president or party.”
Hadi was today urged to clear up the “RM90 million mystery” that was “embarrassing” the party, after the PAS president settled a defamation suit against Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.
Hadi was suing Rewcastle-Brown over the article “As Najib denies all over 1MDB, let’s not forget his many other criminal connections”, published on August 6, 2016, in which she alleged Hadi and other PAS leaders had received millions from then Umno president Najib Razak to back the party in the May general election.
Following the settlement, Rewcastle-Brown had said that among the terms which were otherwise not to be disclosed was that the article would remain unchanged on the site.
Amanah president Mahfuz Omar, who urged Hadi to explain his decision today, said Hadi’s sudden change of heart in settling the suit made it appear as though Hadi had taken the money.
He said if PAS had any dignity, it would come forward and clear up the matter.
Najib appears to have heeded the call in his denial and defence of the PAS president.
“It is unfair for PAS to be attacked and slandered on this issue,” Najib said. – February 3, 2019.

This dungu is now defending Hadi because BN & PAS are coalition partners now, and defending Hadi is the obvious thing to do.
The AG should instruct the MACC and the police to investigate the allegation and put the perpetrators behind bars!!
