POLICE today said they have failed to find the person responsible for throwing the chair that killed schoolboy Sathiswaran Sathiasilan a year ago.

Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief Rusdi Mohd Isa told The Malaysian Insight that the police had exhausted all avenues trying to find the killer.

“We have done our very best to find the culprit behind the killing of Sathiswaran, but unfortunately, we have yet to discover the person behind the incident at the Seri Pantai People’s Housing Project flats in Pantai Dalam.

“We want closure, the case is still open. We are still looking into it. But there is no update on the case,” the top cop said.

Last year, The Malaysian Insight was told that the police used a polygraph machine on the sole suspect arrested, but the results were negative.

The police also said that they had recorded statements from more than a dozen individuals.

“We used the lie detector machine on the woman we arrested, but the results were negative. We had to let her go after the remand ended.

“We interviewed more than a dozen people in this case, but there are no leads to the person responsible,” the source said when contacted last year.

Another source today said the police had submitted the investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.

In March last year, police detained a 23-year-old woman to assist in their investigations into the death of Sathiswaran, who was killed after he was struck by a chair flung from the 21st floor of the flats in Pantai Dalam in January.

Police said the woman was arrested on March 12 based on the chemist’s report.

“She was interrogated during her remand period, but she did not provide any admission.

“The federal police also used a digital voice stress analysis during the interrogation, but it was futile,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said.

The Form Three pupil at La Salle Brickfields in Petaling Jaya had been accompanying his mother, S. Kasthuribai, 45, who had just finished grocery shopping, when the incident occurred.

Both mother and son were about to enter their block, Block 102 at 8.30pm when tragedy struck.

A blue office chair, believed to have been thrown from one of the upper floors, came flying down and struck Sathiswaran. – February 2, 2019.
