TERESA Kok wants an apology and RM30 million in damages from Selangor PAS Youth chief Syarhan Humaizi Halim for defaming her in a Facebook posting last week.

The primary industries minister’s letter of demand was delivered to Syarhan today by Kok’s lawyers from SN Nair and Partners.

In her demand letter, the DAP leader said the article posted by Syarhan was derogatory and defamatory, and meant that she is against Islam, a racist and bigot, and a dishonest minister who is untrustworthy, deceitful and unethical.

Kok also took offence to another article which Syarhan had referred to in his writing, saying that the second article too was derogatory and defamatory.

In his article, Syarhan had criticised DAP for having their own agenda against Islam, and he had referred to an article published in Malaysia Today which had labelled Kok as being against Islam as the official religion of Malaysia.

The demand letter stated that the articles were bereft of truth, motivated by malice, and were calculated to tarnish her good name and character.

Kok said Syarhan should immediately retract his writing from his Facebook and tender an apology to her.

“Our client has also instructed us to demand damages of RM30 million from you for the injury caused to our client’s reputation,” said the letter of demand.

The lawyers said they will file a defamation suit if Syarhan does not comply with the terms proposed by them within seven days.

Kok is also seeking all legal costs incurred. – January 23, 2019.
