NAJIB Razak was today at Batu Caves to meet devotees observing Thaipusam, as he has done in the past during his time in office.
The former prime minister mingled with the crowd and shook hands with devotees.
“I extended my hand to reinforce nambikei (trust) with the community.
“I will always go to Batu Caves. I was invited by MIC leaders to be with the Indian community during this Thaipusam. Hidup Rakyat,” he said in a Facebook post, which was accompanied by pictures of him greeting devotees alongside MIC leaders.
Najib had once been called the “father of the Indian community” by some for his contribution towards uplifting the community.
He also came up with the Malaysian Indian Blueprint aimed at improving the living standards of the Indian community.
Ahead of the May 9 polls last year that Barisan Nasional lost, Najib announced a RM50 million allocation for the Socioeconomic Development of the Indian Community (Sedic) unit; RM50 million for Tekun; RM50 million allocation for the maintenance and repair of Tamil schools; and, a special distribution of RM1.5 billion additional units of the Amanah Saham 1Malaysia for Indians, limited to 30,000 units per investor. – January 21, 2019.
