PAKATAN Harapan (PH) will find it a difficult task to wrest Cameron Highlands from Barisan Nasional (BN) as Orang Asli voters still believe that they are in power and are able to look after their interests, said DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong.

“I have come here last week and today. We have seven days before the election but if we win it will be a miracle.

“In the Orang Asli villages many are not aware that the government has changed.

“They still think former prime minister Najib Razak is still in charge. And Najib also acts like a minister when he is here,” he said during a fundraising event at Kg Raja yesterday.

The by-election will see a four-cornered fight between PH’s M. Manogaran, BN’s Ramli Mohd Noor and independents Sallehudin Ab Talib and Wong Seng Yee.

Liew said BN is able to fool the Orang Asli because they don’t have proper facilities such as proper road access, phone coverage and no internet.

“Until now he (Najib) is telling the people he is still in government. He is telling the people they are the government while PH is the opposition.

“That is the difficulty that we are facing. The people (Orang Asli) are confused,” said the deputy defence minister.

Liew said that PH can still win even though the coalition had only gotten 10% of the Orang Asli votes in the 14th general election.

“We will continue to campaign hard and we hope to get the votes to win the election.” – January 20, 2019.

  • If people like Anwar, spent less time politicking for power, and more time meeting voters in the heartlands, and getting them to understand the basics that there has been a change of government, (after all he has no executive role, so he has plenty of time to spare), then we can see a change of rural mindset.
But perhaps that is not what he seeks.

  • I sincerely pray and hope that BN to win Cameron. This shall be a wake up call to PH to be serious and not pussy footing in Governance . Let rakyat have a grand feeling and satisfactions to ensure that there will be another second defeat trouncing in Semenyih. Lets humble and traumatise the irresponsible and lackaidaisical PH to buck up to relook into their follies and address it immediately or else it will be continuious defeat after defeat to kick them out if they are least bother about seriously governing.
