BFM has fired 2 staff members over sexual harassment claims after sufficient evidence was found to warrant their termination.
That was among the highlights of a report by the independent investigating committee set up to probe into allegations of sexual assault and harassment at the radio station raised in an anonymous letter.
However, Malek said the matter could have been addressed in a more proactive and timely manner.
He also said the company had fired another staff member in 2017 for raping a colleague, as detailed in the anonymous letter.
Malek said the company responded quickly to the incident but the victim did not wish to further pursue the matter.
“Immediately upon receiving the complaint, the BFM management team commenced an investigation and took the highest form of disciplinary action by terminating the employment of the accused employee.
“The BFM management team did not make a police report as the complainant did not wish to escalate the matter at the time,” he said.
Meanwhile, Malek said BFM is improving its system for employees to report their grievances and that the radio station intends to put in a new system in four weeks’ time.
He said a review of BFM’s internal policies and guidelines is also underway to ensure that employees are working in a safe environment. – January 7, 2019.

Does the sexual misconduct by the employees warrant investigation and should they be charged?
Why is BFM taking this action lightly? Are they condoning such actions? This is unbecoming of a professional radio station.
Police reports ought to be made and the perpetrators brought to justice
