BFM has fired 2 staff members over sexual harassment claims after sufficient evidence was found to warrant their termination.

That was among the highlights of a report by the independent investigating committee set up to probe into allegations of sexual assault and harassment at the radio station raised in an anonymous letter.

“In respect of the allegations of sexual harassment, two employees have been served termination letters for misconduct. The Board has determined that there is sufficient evidence to warrant this course of action,” BFM founder Malek Ali said in a statement today.

However, Malek said the matter could have been addressed in a more proactive and timely manner.

He also said the company had fired another staff member in 2017 for raping a colleague, as detailed in the anonymous letter.

Malek said the company responded quickly to the incident but the victim did not wish to further pursue the matter.

“Immediately upon receiving the complaint, the BFM management team commenced an investigation and took the highest form of disciplinary action by terminating the employment of the accused employee.

“The BFM management team did not make a police report as the complainant did not wish to escalate the matter at the time,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malek said BFM is improving its system for employees to report their grievances and that the radio station intends to put in a new system in four weeks’ time.

He said a review of BFM’s internal policies and guidelines is also underway to ensure that employees are working in a safe environment. – January 7, 2019.

  • Who are the two that was fired? Name them and shame them. The industry have to be firm that they're very serious about this matter.

  • What happened to the cases that happened at our defence university that were reported sometime back? Has any action been taken or as claimed that there was a cover up by high level authority? Please report.

  • Why is there no criminal action against the alleged rapist in 2017.
Does the sexual misconduct by the employees warrant investigation and should they be charged?
Why is BFM taking this action lightly? Are they condoning such actions? This is unbecoming of a professional radio station.
Police reports ought to be made and the perpetrators brought to justice
