Azmin denies Morocco plot with Hisham

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali says ‘for the good of the nation, we have to work with everyone, and must be more inclusive’. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 6, 2019.

MOHAMED Azmin Ali today urged his detractors not to read too much into his meeting with Umno leader Hishammuddin Hussein in Morocco last week.

“I did not got for a holiday with Hishammuddin. We bumped into each other in Morocco.

“I also met many other Malaysians in Morocco. I met other Malaysian tourists and students there… so don’t turn it into an issue,” he told reporters in Semenyih.

On December 30, Azmin’s eldest son, Ameer, shared a photo on Twitter of Azmin and Hishammuddin’s families on holiday in Morocco, with the caption “Our families reunited”. He tagged his father and Hishammuddin in the post

In the picture, the families were all smiles, with Azmin and Hishammuddin posing with their hands clasped.

In another photo, they were seen having a meal together.

The posts were removed a day later after the PKR deputy president was criticised for holidaying with ‘the enemy’.

Azmin, who is the Economic Affairs Minister, said today his friendship with Hishammuddin goes back a long way

“It’s nothing new. I was the only opposition leader invited to his family event some years ago. I was the only one from the opposition to have been invited to share his family’s joyous moment,” he said.

He urged his critics to be more civilised when raising issues about him.

“Don’t think there is a political reason for every meeting.

“Also, for the good of the nation, we have to work with everyone, and must be more inclusive,” he said.

Azmin’s close ties with Hishammuddin are not viewed favourably by some in PKR, who see it as a plot to stop PKR president Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister after Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Azmin is also perceived to be getting close to Dr Mahathir. During a recent umrah expedition to Mecca, the PKR No. 2 tweeted that he was praying for the prime minister’s wellbeing, but made no mention of his “mentor” Anwar.

Former Umno vice-president Hishammuddin has been accused of orchestrating the mass resignation of leaders from the Barisan Nasional lynchpin to become independents who support the leadership of Dr Mahathir.

Azmin denied these claims, saying he is not working to stop Anwar from getting into the PM’s office. – January 6, 2019.

  • Of course the two did not go together for a holiday. But the "bumping" into each other in Morocco was surely not a co-incidence. Really too much to be a co-incidence to believe! The "bumping" must have been planned, and planned to be a secret. But someone let the cat out of the bag! Time will tell whether it was really a co-incidental "bumping" or it was for political scheming.

  • This is Malay politics, When Najib lost the election, one the first person he called for advice was Anwar Ibrahim. Zahid called into Tun's office in Putrajaya to discuss the future of UMNO and Tun met with a bunch of UMNO frogs to discuss their future career, Anwar has played the frog game before and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia vice-president Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman advocated granting contracts to division chiefs. .
