POLICE have arrested the son of Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu in an operation at Jalan Ampang early today after he tested positive for drugs.

A source from the Dang Wangi police narcotics department told The Malaysian Insight that Ahmad Saiful Islam Mohamad, 31, tested positive for marijuana when he was picked up at an entertainment outlet about 12.30am today.

The Amanah president, popularly known as Mat Sabu, has four children, and Saiful Islam is his third child.

The Malaysian Insight has reached out to the minister and his aide for comment.

Earlier, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Zainuddin Yaacob told Malay-language daily Sinar Harian that the man together with another individual have been released on police bail.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for the consumption of drugs.

The provision carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or two years’ jail upon conviction.

Free Malaysia Today has also confirmed the arrest with an aide to Mohamad. – January 5, 2019.
