THE Johor crown prince does not understand the concept of a federation, Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today, responding to Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s criticism of Pakatan Harapan.

The prime minister said Tunku Ismail should have a better understanding of the differences between matters under the purview of the state and federal governments.

“The crown prince probably does not understand the concept of a federation. Perhaps, he wasn’t born yet, but I was around at the time.

“We have a list of what falls under the power of the federation, and what falls under the states,” he said after chairing a meeting of the PH presidential council in Kuala Lumpur.

Tunku Ismail, in a Facebook post, said the federal government should “stop fighting among each other and stop politicising every issue”.

He called on the PH administration to “please start governing”.

Recently, the crown prince took issue with Putrajaya’s stance against turning the Pulau Kukup national park into sultanate land.

On the relationship between Johor and his administration, Dr Mahathir said: “He (Tunku Ismail) has no position whatsoever.”

In his Facebook post, the crown prince said he is willing to become “public enemy No. 1” if it means standing up for the people.

“I want the best for the people. Maybe, some may not like what I say, but that is the challenge. To be the voice of the people, let me be public enemy No. 1.”

Tunku Ismail previously called 93-year-old Dr Mahathir “senile” in a tweet that was later deleted. – January 4, 2019.

  • Perhaps and most likely the crown prince as well as his family and ancestors are doing what they always did? Bully and take whatever they want?

  • Bangsa Johor makes us proud. But certainly a bigger and stronger Bangsa Malaysia makes us prouder.

    • In the country there is only Bangsa Malaysia or Malaysian. All the coining of Bangsa by states are just rubbish and only disunite the Malaysian. The Bangsa Johore is only a political posturing but do not have any buy back as a whole for the country. One can call one self by identity from the states but not to use it to denotes the differences and abuse it politically. Right now even the claim of Bangsa Johore stature over others are fizzling out when it is deemed as a gimmick and fool hardy antics to draw support.

  • Agree only Bangsa Malaysia...this bangsa johore concept should be irrelevant and should not be made use to garner support....by some.
