PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad hopes the new year will encourage everyone to strive harder to achieve greater success.

“May the new year bring a bigger meaning to all of us and give us the push to continue working to achieve greater success,” he said in his New Year’s Day message video clip, which was posted on social media platform.

He said 2018 was a challenging year, with many bitter and sweet experiences.

He also hoped that all resolutions made at the beginning of 2018 had been kept.

Dr Mahathir led the Pakatan Harapan pact to win the 14^th general election in May, taking over power after 60 years of Barisan Nasional rule.

It has been a rough ride for his administration, as he had been unable to implement major reforms due to the nation’s weak financial standing.

Upon taking power, the government said that it was saddled with a RM1 trillion debt due to the previous government’s mismanagement. – December 31, 2018.
